PATNA: Though thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in North-East Bihar on Thursday, several parts of South Bihar will continue to endure scorching heatwave conditions till June 18. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for severe heatwave at isolated places, including Nawada, Sheikhpura, Aurangabad, and Bhojpur on Thursday. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Gaya, Siwan, Nalanda, and Rohtas.
Thunderstorms are expected to prevail over the North-Central and North-East districts on Friday, while the Northern and South-East parts of the state will witness thunderstorm activities as indicated by a yellow alert on June 17 and 18. "Northern districts will experience isolated rains during the next three days. There will be scattered rain over the North-East districts on June 18. However, heatwave conditions are expected to persist over South Bihar for the next four days," said Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at Patna Meteorological Centre.
As per Met data, not much change in maximum temperatures is expected during the next four days. However, surface winds are likely to range between 15 to 20kmph, gusting up to 25kmph during this period.
As per the evening bulletin from the Patna Meteorological Centre, 10 districts, including Patna, Gaya and Muzaffarpur, experienced heatwave conditions as indicated by a yellow alert on Wednesday. Additionally, an orange alert for severe heatwave was issued for five districts, including Banka and Nawada.
The highest maximum temperature recorded in Sheikhpura, reached a sizzling 44.1 degrees C, followed by Gaya and Bhojpur at 43.9 degrees C. Patna registered a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees C.
