Kanpur: Three policemen, Kanpur Dehat’s Bhognipur police station in-charge, a sub-inspector and a constable, allegedly involved in a robbery of 50 kg silver from a businessman in Auraiya recently, were dismissed from service on Tuesday.
The businessman, Manish Soni, was travelling to Auraiya with some relatives in his Creta car on June 6 when the accused inspector, SI and a constable, besides their aides intercepted him on the pretext of checking his vehicle and later fled with bags containing 50 kg of silver. “The policemen and others have been booked for committing armed robbery and criminal conspiracy,” informed SP Auraiya Charu Nigam, adding that the looted silver was valued at over Rs 37 lakh. Additional director general (Kanpur zone) Alok Singh said that the three policemen have been dismissed from service.
The accused policemen have been identified as inspector Ajay Pal Singh Katheria, in-charge Bhognipur police station in Kanpur Dehat, sub-inspector Chintan Kaushik and head constable Ram Shankar Yadav who is posted at the same police station.
The plot of this loot was hatched by Sanjay Topi, a former employee of jeweller Soni. Sanjay took help of his two friends Rafat and Jamaluddin of Hamirpur. Jamaluddin further orchestrated this robbery with the help of Ajay Pal and Chintan Kaushik, police said. Sanjay, Rafat, Jamaluddin and one Rakesh, who also assisted in the crime, have been arrested. Gabbu, a resident of Lalitpur and Tajuddin of Hamirpur, two other of their aides are absconding.
The police had recovered an SUV, used in the crime, besides two rifles and five cartridges of 315 bore from the possession of Rafat and Jamaluddin.
Earlier, the inspector, sub-inspector, besides their other counterpart head-constable Ramshankar were suspended. After their suspension, SP Kanpur Dehat BBGTS Murthy sent a file to ADG Kanpur Zone Alok Singh with a recommendation to dismiss them from their job, which was accepted.
