RBI boss gets 'Governor of the Year' award in London

BHUBANESWAR: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das was honoured with the 'Governor of the Year' award for 2023 by Central Banking, an economic research journal, in London on Tuesday.
A statement by Central Banking praised Das "for an extraordinary effort towards guiding India through recent crises while safeguarding reforms and overseeing a revolution in payments technology."
"The governor has had to navigate turbulent waters, from the shock of Covid-19 to the effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, against a tense political backdrop. ," the statement said.

Earlier, the RBI governor delivered the opening plenary address at the summer meetings organised by Central Banking. He spoke on 'Central Banking in Uncertain Times: The Indian Experience' and highlighted RBI's response to challenges of the Covid-19, surge in inflation, growth slowdown and threats to financial stability and the lessons learnt. He said RBI's measures have been prudent, targeted and calibrated to the need of the hour.
