One person was killed and nine others injured after an SUV rammed into a stationary vehicle on the Pune-Solapur Highway on Thursday morning.
The police have booked the driver of the tempo for negligently stopping on the highway that led to the accident. The incident took place at around 6.30 am in Bhigwan town of Indapur taluka in Pune district, around 100 km from the city.
The SUV, carrying 10 people including the driver, and others from three related families residing in various places in Pune district, was on its way to Solapur.
Assistant Inspector Dilip Pawar, in-charge of Bhigwan police station, said, “Initial investigation suggests that the driver of the tempo truck had stopped his vehicle in a dangerous manner on the highway. As such, the driver of the SUV could not anticipate and rammed into it, killing one person in and injuring nine others.”
The driver of the tempo has been identified as Mahesh Giri, 32, a resident of Osmanabad. The deceased passenger has been identified as Jalindar Balasaheb Virkar, 36, a resident of Chikhli.
Those injured in the accident are Raju Phadke, his wife Vaishali Phadke, Macchindra Virkar, Laxmibai Virkar, Jalindar’s children Pritam and Swara, Mangal Medankar, Vishal More and Sangita More.
