NEW DELHI: It drizzled in some parts of the city with strong winds blowing on Wednesday evening, weather officials said, adding respite was expected from the heat as there were chances of light rain on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the weather was generally warm and dry with gusty winds, they said.
Very light rain forecast from Thursday onwards was expected to bring the temperature below 40 degrees Celsius, they said.
"There are chances of light rain and drizzle activity on Thursday and it may continue over the next few days. The temperature will continuously gradually drop due to the cloud cover. There is a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and the adjoining areas. While the Delhi NCR will receive dry northwesterly winds during the daytime, (the flow of) moist southwesterly winds coming from the Arabian Sea will increase the moisture of the region in the evening. Thus, there will be a cloud cover," said Kuldeep Srivastava, senior scientist, IMD.
The maximum temperature at the city's base station Safdarjung was recorded at 40.9 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal against 41.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier, officials said. The minimum temperature was 29.7 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal they added.
