AGRA: The owner of a currency exchange centre, Rachit Kwatra, 48. was allegedly shot by four men who then stole a bag containing Rs 17 lakh worth of foreign currency from his possession on Fatehabad road under the Tajganj police station in
Agra on Tuesday night.
Kwatra's business partner, Manish Sharma said, "Rachit left the office at around 8 pm while I was still in office. The four men came in a white car. Of them one stayed in the car while the others looted Rachit who was carrying a bag containing around Rs 17 lakh worth of foreign currency."
Sharma added that "When Rachit tried to protect the bag, they shot him and the bullet pierced through his stomach. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and is undergoing treatment."
Vikas Kumar, deputy commissioner of police, said, "Six teams have been tasked to investigate every aspect of the case in detail. CCTV cameras in the area are being examined. The accused were aware that Rachit takes currency home every day as there was no vault in his office. Primary investigation revealed that the miscreants had conducted recce before committing the crime."
Police said that the camera installed in the area under the smart city project didn't capture the incident and was found to be non-functional.
"The spot where the incident took place connects with three roads. We are searching CCTV cameras at private properties," said an officer privy to the case.
