Ranchi: The state department of health, medical education and family welfare will organize special blood donation camps in districts which have a high prevalence of anaemia, the Jharkhand State Aids Control Society (JSACS) announced on Wednesday.
JSACS project director Bhuvnesh Pratap Singh, while speaking at a function organized at the IPH auditorium in Namkum, said a special exercise is currently underway to identify the districts which have the highest prevalence of anemia among the people. “Special blood donation camps will be held in these districts to benefit patients with anaemia, especially the womenfolk,” Singh added.
According to the latest NFHS data, over 67% of all women in Jharkhand are anaemic. Singh also claimed that voluntary blood donation in Jharkhand was on the rise gradually.
“While over 2.18 lakh units of blood were collected in 2020-21, over 2.5 lakh units were collected during 2021-22. In 2022-23, over 3.2 lakh units were collected, and we are hopeful that the figures will be around 4 lakh next year,” he added.
Health minister Banna Gupta, who was invited as the chief guest, skipped the event.
