Man loses 11L to online fraudsters

Coimbatore: A 57-year-old man lost 10.95 lakh to online scammers, who promised high returns on investments.
P Gopalakrishnan of Maniyakaranpalayam near Ganapathy, employee of a textile marketing company, had received a WhatsApp message in January about a part-time job.
As per instructions of sender ‘Savani Gupta’, he clicked links to watch advertisements and received money after a few days. He soon received another message, asking him to invest it. He followed the sender’s instructions and received good returns. As he gained confidence, Gopalakrishnan invested 10,95,685 between January and April, but received nothing in return. When he contacted them, the scammer pestered him to send more money to release his investment. The cybercrime police have registered a case under several sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Inspector P A Arun is investigating the incident.
