Ahead of Father's Day 2023, Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal took a trip down memory lane, sharing anecdotes from his childhood and his cordial relationship with his father.
The Vedanta boss during his house cleaning found a box that had an album from his childhood days. "It had a lot of black and white photos of me and my babu ji.. in most of them, babu ji was wearing his favorite blue coat and dhoti..and I was just a little boy hiding behind him," Agarwal wrote.
Remembering his father, Agarwal said, "father's love is unique in its own way". They scold but showers umpteen amount of love (thodi si daat aut bahut sara pyaar), Agarwal wrote on Twitter.
Further, he shared an anecdote that how his father expressed love for his children. "babu ji ki ek baat humesha mujhe yaad rahegi.. no matter what time he came home from work… he always got us something, chahe woh mithai ho ya chatpate anar dane ki goli (I will always remember one thing about my father... no matter what time he came home from work… he always got us something...whether it is sweets or pomegranate dry seeds).
Speaking about the philosophy of life, Agarwal said, "The people we love may not always be with us..par unki yaadien reh jati hain (but their memories stay with us forever), kuch boxes mein aur kuch dilon mein (some memories stay inside boxes and some at the core of our hearts)...for me, every day is fathers day".
Agarwal often shares posts on his personal life with his 170.1k followers on Twitter.
A Bihar-born industrialist, Agarwal moved to Bombay to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams in the 1970s.
He started a metal scrap business that collected metal from cable companies around the country and sold them in Mumbai. In 1976, he saw an opportunity to grow his business by acquiring the bankrupt Shamsher Sterling Cable Company. This was his first series of entrepreneurial masterstrokes. As his business grew, he diversified into mining, and manufacturing of raw materials such as copper, zinc, and aluminum.
Sterling was reinvented as Vedanta Resources in 2003 and was listed on London Stock Exchange. Vedanta Resources is a multi-billion dollar company today, but during the struggling period, Chairman Agarwal strived hard to buy it at ₹16 lakh.
He always motivates the younger generation people on the social media platform to chase their dreams but "also chase simple joys of life which make these dreams worth living for".
"I have spent several years in the business world, kaafi kathinaayian dekhi aur kaafi meetings attend kari, kuch achi aur kuch buri (I have witnessed difficulties in life, have attended several meetings--some good and some bad). In all of this, one thing that has been my constant is enjoying life - joh sukoon zindagi khul kar jeene mein hai woh aur kahan (The only satisfaction in life is to live freely)," Agarwal wrote in one of his recent Twitter posts.
