Manchester United have triggered the one year extension in Ethan Laird’s contract.
Young right back Laird’s contract was set to run out this summer but Man United have now used the option to extend his deal, according to Manchester Evening News.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at QPR in the Championship and he may be set for another spell away from the club next campaign.
He will take part in pre-season and his future will be assessed.
Bayern Munich have turned their attentions to signing Manchester United target Randal Kolo Muani this summer.
Kolo Muani has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for months as Erik ten Hag targets a new striker during the transfer window.
However, according to reports, Bayern are now interested in signing the Frankfurt star after switching their focus onto a forward following their decision to pull out of the race to sign Declan Rice.
This means that Man United now face a challenge to get their man and may have to look further down their list of targets for a new number nine.
talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist has told Jadon Sancho to return to Borussia Dortmund to revive his career.
Sancho has scored 12 goals in 70 appearances since joining Manchester United, failing to continue his amazing form at Dortmund where he netted 50 goals and provided 64 assists in 137 appearances.
And now McCoist has told talkSPORT Breakfast that the winger should consider a return to Germany.
Manchester United target Frenkie De Jong has spoken out about last summer’s transfer saga and confirmed that he is set to stay at Barcelona.
Erik ten Hag has been keen to bring De Jong to the Premier League since arriving at Old Trafford and almost secured a deal to sign the midfielder last summer.
The rumours have continued to swirl once again this year but the Dutch international has seemed to end Man United’s hopes of gaining his signature.
He told Voetbal International when asked if he would be staying at the LaLiga champions beyond this summer: “That has been clear to me, also last summer when things were restless for a while.
“I always knew that I wanted to stay at Barcelona. That’s why it wasn’t so stressful for me last summer.
“Also, I had just signed a contract extension [in 2020] so I always felt that I was in control and able to decide for myself.
“That’s why I didn’t bother [worrying about it]. I feel good at Barcelona and assume that I will still be playing here next season.”
Manchester United target Kim Min-Jae is stalling on signing a new contract at Napoli that would remove his release clause, talkSPORT understands.
Under the terms of his current deal Kim can leave for a fee of around £42m from July 1.
Erik ten Hag is keen to bring the centre-back to Old Trafford this summer after he played a huge part in Napoli’s success in Serie A last season.
Newcastle are also interested in signing the South Korean international as they look to bolster their squad for their Champions League return.
A leading bookmaker has suspended betting on Kim Min-Jae’s proposed transfer to Manchester United.
Betfair received a flurry of bets on the South Korean defender landing at Old Trafford this summer after speculation of his future intensified.
The 26-year-old centre-back played a leading role in helping Napoli end their 33-year wait for a Serie A title this season but looks set to leave after just one season at the club.
His arrival at Old Trafford could spell the end for Harry Maguire who has been used in a bit-part role under boss Erik ten Hag.
As reported yesterday, Man United have revived their interest in goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
talkSPORT understands Sommer has been on the Red Devils’ radar since last summer and is the profile of ‘keeper Erik ten Hag is keen to recruit.
Sommer is ready to quit Bayern Munich unless he is given guarantees over replacing Manuel Neuer as the German giants’ number one.
The 34-year-old would be a cheaper alternative to Jordan Pickford and Andre Onana, who are both believed to be on Ten Hag’s wish-list.
That’s all for today’s Manchester United transfer news.
Come back to our live blog tomorrow for the latest updates on the Red Devils!
Saudi Arabian sides could look to sign David de Gea this summer.
Fabrizio Romano reports that even though Manchester United and the goalkeeper have a verbal agreement at the ‘final stages’ over a new deal, they could still try to make a move.
United will also be set to sign a new option in between the sticks in the transfer window regardless of what happens with De Gea.
The Spaniard is approaching the end of his current deal at Old Trafford, and made 58 appearances across all competitions this season.
Betting has been suspended on Kim Min-jae joining Man United this summer.
Betfair believe the South Korea international’s move to Old Trafford is done after flurry of bets.
And his arrival as prompted fresh questions about Harry Maguire’s future with Tottenham now favourites to sign him.
Manchester United are ready to revive their interest in Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer, talkSPORT undestands.
Sommer has been on the Red Devils’ radar since last summer and is the profile of ‘keeper Erik ten Hag is keen to recruit.
United have verbally agreed a new contract with David de Gea but the Spaniard is yet to put pen to paper.
The delay over De Gea’s future is holding up Dean Henderson making a permanent move to Nottingham Forest.
Kylian Mbappe has insisted he will still be playing at Paris Saint-Germain next season.
Responding on Twitter to a story linking him with Real Madrid, Mbappe posted: “LIES…
“At the same time, the bigger it is, the more it passes. I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG where I am very happy.”
Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is keen to maintain a strong transfer relationship with Man United having taken Amad Diallo on loan last season.
Mowbray said: “I hope we can keep a close relationship with United, if they need to loan young players out.
“It’s amazing really, I’ve been in management a long time and even the likes of Joe Rothwell, who I had at Blackburn, came through the United ranks [Rothwell is now with Bournemouth in the Premier League].
“Whether they never made it to the first-team level, they all were bedded through and came through that system really.
“I think the game is littered with Manchester United players who came through their system, through their academy system, and generally what you know is you get grounded, talented footballers who know what to do with the football. They know how to deal with the ball.
“When I’m looking for players, I always look to see what their background is, where they were brought up and the core values of what their football brain is about.
“You never really fall short with Manchester United players, whether they made it at first-team level or not as, generally, they’ve all been brought up properly.”
Rasmus Hojlund says he wants to be a ‘top shelf’ player and joining Manchester United would help him achieve that.
Hojlund is being heavily linked with a summer move to Old Trafford and says he can not comment on such speculation.
But he says joining United would be ‘huge’.
He said: “I can’t say anything about that.
“It’s a huge club, so I must have done something right if it says they want me.
“My goal is to reach the top shelf, and you can say that Manchester United is. So it will be huge.”
talkSPORT’s Rory Jennings believes ‘pitiful’ Jadon Sancho should never play for Manchester United again.
Following his mega-money move from Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has scored 12 goals in 79 appearances for United.
And Jennings says his poor showing in the FA Cup is the final straw for his Red Devils career.
Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs interested in Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe does not want to extend his contract beyond 2024 while PSG are reluctant to let him leave for free.
That has alerted several top clubs to the prospect of signing Mbappe this summer.
The Times claim Real Madrid remain favourites but Chelsea and Man City have registered their interest and United are also keen.
They add that PSG would only look to agree a deal that would guarantee them a free this summer but would also let them keep Mbappe for another season.
Liverpool reportedly have the advantage over Manchester United in the pursuit of Benjamin Pavard.
The World Cup winner is set to leave Bayern Munich this summer in search of a new challenge and it looks likely that he’ll move to the Premier League.
According to BILD, Liverpool are currently leading United in the race to land the Frenchman.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are still trying to tempt David de Gea into a move despite him being close to agreeing a new Manchester United deal, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.
Saudi teams are busy luring top class players to their league this summer and De Gea is among the targets.
United are known to be looking for a new goalkeeper and that could give potential suitors the chance to swoop in.
Manchester United have been handed a blow after Arsenal have indicated to West Ham they will pay a guaranteed transfer fee of £100million to buy Declan Rice this summer, talkSPORT understands.
The Gunners are yet to make a formal bid for the midfielder, but clubs chiefs have told West Ham bosses the deal will be done this summer.
Hammers owner David Sullivan admitted to talkSPORT last week that Rice has played his final game for the side after captaining them to Europa Conference League glory.
Man United have also enquired about the England international, but Rice has always wanted to join Arsenal to remain in London.
A £100million plus add-ons deal would make him the most expensive British footballer in history, eclipsing Jack Grealish and his transfer to Man City last summer.
Gary Neville has insisted that ‘everyone’s bored’ of the Manchester United owners.
“Everyone’s bored now. Honestly, I think everyone has got the point whereby what the Glazers do, they erode every little last bit of energy out of everything that they do,” Neville insisted on The Overlap.
“The fans have had enough, they want them out and I think to be fair – it’s sad, really, that it’s come to that but that’s exactly how I think everybody feels.
“They know nothing about Manchester or the north west of England and the tradition of football in this part.
“They have not embedded themselves in the local culture.”
Jamie Carragher has urged Manchester United to sign Declan Rice over Mason Mount.
“Mason Mount an upgrade on Eriksen in terms of where he plays,” Carragher told Metro.
2But going back to Declan Rice, United are one of the few teams at the top who don’t play 4-3-3, it’s usually two midfielders with Bruno Fernandes.
“Declan Rice and Mason Mount, they are very different players and it shouldn’t be one or the other but when you look at what Manchester United have got right now, I actually think Declan Rice would be a better fit for them. A lot more expensive of course.
“I do think he [Mount] is a good player and I like him, I wanted Liverpool to get him. Lots of coaches have picked him and like him. There is already a good player in there but Declan Rice would suit United more than Mason Mount in terms of how they set up.”
Hello and welcome back to our Man United live blog – our top stories this morning are…
Kylian Mbappe has told Paris Saint-Germain he won’t be extending his contract until 2025, according to reports.
This means that PSG have to make a decision on allowing him to leave this summer or losing him for nothing at the end of the next season.
Real Madrid will be Mbappe’s chief destination having failed to bring him in on a free transfer last year and that could see them abandon their pursuit of Harry Kane.
And that’ll be a boost to the Red Devils, who were thought to be competing with the LaLiga giants for Tottenham star Kane’s signature.
That’s all for the today’s Manchester United transfer news.
Check back tomorrow for the latest updates on the Red Devils!
Manchester United are beginning to make plans for a move for Mason Mount.
Sky Sports report Erik ten Hag’s side are soon set to make a formal bid for the Chelsea midfielder.
However, there is said to still be a gap in valuation for the 24-year-old.
Mount has one year left on his deal at Chelsea, and talkSPORT understands he has agreed personal terms with United.
Manchester United have reportedly distanced themselves from comments made by Brandon Williams after rivals Man City’s treble win.
ESPN claim the Red Devils are unhappy with the defender’s actions.
Just minutes after City became the first team to match United’s historic 1999 triumph, Williams posted to his Instagram story saying: “Nobody wants a sloppy seconds.”
