RANCHI: A popular park located in the heart of the city in Morhabadi area is crying for attention due to lack of maintenance.
Dada Dadi park, rechristened RMC Nigam Park in 2018, was revamped with an investment of Rs 1.37 crore. This green lung is spread on about five acres and has several equipment for kids such as swings, slides among others.
However, majority of them are either defunct or in poor condition.
The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) had also set up an open-air gym here by installing various equipment for workouts. But many of them too are in bad shape, rued many regulars to this park. Even the dustbins, pathways as well as decorative installations of animals, too, are crying out for urgent repair.
On an average, 2,000 to 2,500 people visit the park daily throughout the day. While entry fee to this park is Rs 10 during normal hours, it is free for morning walkers from 6am to 8am.
Radheshayam Kumar, a banker, who is one of the daily visitors to this park as his morning routine, said, “I have realised footfall has dropped in recent months due to poor upkeep of the park. My children used to love it here initially but I have asked my wife to stop bringing them here as the slides, swings have rusted and turned rickety for lack of maintenance.”

Shivam Sharma, who had come with his parents, said, “Most of the swings make a noise when we sit on it and sometimes those starts shaking.”
A caretaker of the park, Praveen Bhagat, agreed. “We have complained to the agency concerned about it but nothing has been done so far. My job is only to regulate crowd here. Fixing things is not in my hands.”
Administrator of RMC Shashi Ranjan said, “We keep rectifying things as and when we receive complaints in all our parks. We will review this park soon to take corrective steps.”
