Monsoon Tracker: IMD issues alert for cyclone Biparjoy. Extremely heavy rains to batter these states till Sunday
2 min read 14 Jun 2023, 06:57 AM ISTUnder the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy, heavy rains are forecasted for coastal Gujarat and Rajasthan. Northeast India to see widespread rainfall, while Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and other regions may experience thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
The Very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy is very likely to cross between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) tomorrow evening with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph. Under its influence, prolonged rainfall activity is forecasted over coastal areas of Gujarat from June 14-16, and very heavy rains may occur around the border between Gujarat and Rajasthan from June 16-18, India Meteorological Department bulletin said.
Meanwhile, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over northeast, east and south India during the next few days.

Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh and Morbi districts of Saurashtra & Kutch on 14th June.
The intensity of rainfall would increase with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka & Jamnagar and heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi & Junagarh districts of Gujarat and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over remaining districts of Saurashtra and north Gujarat region on 15th June.
Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over north Gujarat and adjoining south Rajasthan on 16th June.
Widespread rains and thunderstorms may lash Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, Goa and Lakshadweep.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms may soak Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Isolated rainfall with a chance of lightning is likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Interior Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
