Medical board to seek pathologist’s clarification
Thiruvananthapuram: The medical board, formed two months before to re-examine the death of film director Nayana Soorya, is yet to submit a report. The board had sought 30 days for submitting the report, but it has not reached a conclusion so far. The medical board is mulling to hold a meeting with the pathologist who opined that Nayana’s death was due to myocardial infarction (heart attack). The board is not fully convinced of the findings of the pathologist.
“In myocardial infarction, only a certain vessel or a particular portion of the heart will be affected as there will be a clear demarcation. If the heart fails to function due to any other reasons, such as insulin overdose, the entire organ will be equally affected. In Nayana’s case, the pathologist termed the death was due to myocardial infarction and there were reports that she took an insulin overdose that led to myocardial infarction. This point seems contradictory, and more clarifications are needed on it,” said a member of the medical board.
Nayana had low blood sugar, and an insulin vial was spotted in the bedroom where she was found dead four years ago. “Why did she have to use insulin when she was facing low sugar levels? Who injected it? Had it been injected by Nayana, she would have at least surfed online about it. Had it been done by someone else, we have to find out. There are hundreds of facts, documents and data that have to be analysed before jumping to a conclusion,” said the member.
However, the member also stated that the board has not found anything concrete to counter the view of the pathologist so far. The board has been seeking the advice of noted pathologists to have a clarification on it. Earlier, the board termed the postmortem report prepared by Dr Sasaikala was erratic with unconvincing data of wounds found on her body.
