Is Andy Murray playing at Wimbledon this year? Two-time champion gearing up for grass court Grand Slam

Andy Murray is arguably Britain's greatest ever tennis player and his crowning moments have come twice at Wimbledon.

He won the Grand Slam in 2013 and 2016 but since then, things haven't gone to plan for Murray and as he approaches the end of his career, he probably only has a few more years left.

The 36-year-old missed this season's French Open and injuries have ravaged the last few years but the grass courts of south London await.

Is Andy Murray playing at Wimbledon this year?

Murray is a Wimbledon favourite, and despite taking no part in the French Open, he is expected to be involved at SW19.

The Glasgow-born tennis genius was set to be involved in Paris but decided to withdraw to focus on his grass-court form.

The Brit has struggled on clay recently and made a brave decision to sacrifice the chance of another major and focus on Wimbledon.

Britain's most iconic tennis event is scheduled to get underway next month and there are plenty of warm-up tournaments in the build-up.

One such competition was the Surbiton Trophy, which Murray won earlier this month.

It proved to be a great warm-up as Murray came through the week-long event to win and pick up his first trophy on home soil since his last Wimbledon singles title in 2016.

The Brit is currently taking part in the Nottingham Open as he continues to prepare his body for a long run at Wimbledon.

He will then take part in the Queens event.

After years and years of injury pain, the home crowd will hope to see Murray enjoy a good run at SW19.

Speaking ahead of the Nottingham Open, he said: “I want to go as deep as possible here to try to get close to a seed for Wimbledon.

“That’s my goal, so hopefully, I can get a bit closer. The courts here are similar to how Wimbledon plays in the second week, so hopefully, I can get to the second week of that.

“The main thing is to get as many matches played in different conditions against different types of opponents."

So things look good for thousands of expectant fans wanting to see Murray at Wimbledon this year.

Hopefully, he gets through these warm-up tournaments and rolls back the years on the iconic grass courts.
