Hyderabad: Handcuffing of four farmers by police while taking them to a sessions court in Bhuvanagiri town from Nalgonda district jail kicked off a furore with Congress reminding the BRS of its slogan ‘Ab ki baar kisan sarkar.’ The farmers were arrested for staging a protest against the proposed acquisition of their agricultural lands for the Regional Ring Road (RRR).
Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy condemned the handcuffing of the farmers and demanded stringent action against the police officers responsible for it. Party former MP V Hanumanth Rao said the government has been acquiring lands from farmers in Raigir, Bhuvanagiri and other places for the RRR project. TNN
Meanwhile, DCP (Bhuvanagiri) Rajesh Chandra told reporters that the four persons who were arrested were not farmers.
“One of these four persons bought agricultural land and wanted to make plots in the land and not do farming. Some of this land is being acquired by the government,” he said. The accused behaved violently by pushing cops and damaging police vehicles, a police official said, adding the cops who accompanied the accused belong to Armed Reserve.
