Ghaziabad conversion row: NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad alleges conspiracy to defame him

THANE: NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has alleged a political conspiracy by rivals to defame and disturb the harmony in his assembly constituency of Kalwa and Mumbra.
The legislator while talking to the media in the backdrop of the Ghaziabad conversion controversy claimed the Thane police, has denied the incident following which he is now planning to write to the home minister to seek an apology from the Uttar Pradesh government and their police for making statements without any evidence.
“The conversion news is nothing but a concocted story. Some people seem to be unable to digest the fact that there has been no tension in Mumbra. This seems to be a conspiracy to defame me and my constituency. I feel the state should take cognisance of the issue and condemn the statement made by the UP police without presenting any proof,” he said.
“Is it possible that in a suburb like Mumbra that has 25% Hindu population such incidents would go unnoticed? The Mumbra police are always alert and even if such things were happening here, they would have instantly got a whiff of it. The Thane police should also condemn the statements and seek an apology,” said Awhad.
