Gurgaon: A 44-year-old man was mowed down by a truck and dragged for several kilometres near Tikona park on Sohna road before he died, police said.
In Gurgaon for some work,
Jai Prakash was returning home to Kosli in Rewari district on his motorcycle when the truck, carrying crusher stones, ploughed into him on Monday evening. Prakash was allegedly dragged for about 50 metres before the truck driver stopped the vehicle and fled.
SHO Sohna Davender Mann said the accident was first reported to the emergency helpline.
“A police team from Sohna station found Prakash lying on the roadside with serious face and neck injuries. An ambulance rushed the victim to a government hospital but he was declared dead on reaching. We are checking CCTV footage to ascertain the chain of events. We have impounded the truck but its driver is still missing,” the SHO said.
The Gurgaon-bound truck was coming from Tauru Road, police said. Eyewitnesses claimed the truck driver was speeding and driving recklessly.
“I was shocked to see the condition of Prakash’s motorcycle. It was completely mangled and stuck under the truck when we reached the spot. There was a lot of blood on the road too,” Prakash’s cousin
Ajay Kumar, who submitted a complaint in the case, said.
An FIR under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304-A (causing death by negligence), and 427 (mischief causing damage) has been registered against the truck driver.
