KIMBALL TWP. - A new family-owned restaurant is serving up southern cuisine and smiles to their customers.

Crossroads Family Restaurant officially opened its doors on June 9. Owners Chris and Jackie Moody, who have a combined 35 years of food service experience, wanted to open a restaurant that would provide great service to customers and a fair atmosphere to employees.

"Our main goal here, with all of our staff, is to provide a place where they are treated fairly and like people," Chris Moody said.

Crossroads Family Restaurant is located at 4520 Griswold Road in Kimball Township.

Through its first week of being open, the restaurant has already garnered regulars. Leah Galeski, one of the employees, said some people come in multiple times a day.

"We see the same people coming in every day," she said.

One of the goals the Moodys' had with the restaurant was to create a friendly environment for customers. Part of that is held within the restaurant's motto: "God bless and see you soon." Chris and Jackie Moody said that everything at the restaurant is made and served with love.

"Everyone here has a lot of experience, and we just aim to please the area," Chris Moody said.

Jackie Moody said one thing she wants the restaurant to do is give back to the community. They have provided lunch to the Kimball Township Fire Department and Indian Woods Elementary School. Additionally, she said she has donated to suicide awareness organizations and a YOUth Matter! mental health awareness event.

"Anytime someone comes in and brings something to my attention, I try to do what I can for it," Jackie Moody said. "I've been here my whole life, so I want to give back to the community."

Jackie Moody also said the restaurant plans to sponsor the Port Huron Little League.

Chris Moody is originally from Houston, Texas. All of the recipes that he has brought to Crossroads Family Restaurant have been passed through three generations of his family. Additionally, all the food is made with ingredients from local vendors.

One of the popular menu items are the fresh lemonades and the potato bar. Customers get a jumbo potato and can choose from a variety of toppings to put inside. Chris Moody estimated that the restaurant sells 100 lemonades and 60 potatoes a day.

The Moodys' said they would like to eventually open another location in Macomb County. Additionally, they said three of their sons plan to start a food truck within the next year. The truck would serve the same menu as Crossroads Family Restaurant, but on a smaller scale.
