COIMBATORE: An unidentified man threw himself under the wheels of a moving bus a few minutes after he was thrown out of the office of BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan in Coimbatore on Monday evening. He died lying unattended on the road for nearly four hours just 500 metres from the Race Course police station.
CCTV camera footage, authenticated by police, showed the man barging into the MLA's office and trying to lock it from within. A man in the office pushes him out on to the road and the intruder gets up and walks away.
More footage showed him a few minutes later clambering over a road median and walking beside it before suddenly throwing himself under the rear wheels of a town bus driving by.As he lay bleeding on the road, two people are seen moving him to the side near the median. Bikers and motorists stopped to gawk at him, but none helped the man.
The Race Course police said they were trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased, who seemed to be in his late 30s.
Mathivanan, Coimbatore city deputy police commissioner (traffic), said, "The man was seen jumping in front of a government bus around 6.10pm. He was crushed under its wheels, but the bus didn't stop. Other motorists also didn't go to his rescue, even as he was battling for life. He was left unattended on the road for a couple of minutes. Two motorists then moved him to the roadside and left the place without alerting us or the 108 ambulance service."

"We received the information only at 10pm. While we reached the spot in a few minutes, he had already succumbed to his injuries. We suspect that he had learning difficulties," Mathivanan said.

"When he attempted to lock the door from inside, office assistant N Vijay pushed him out of the room and the main gate. The intruder fell on the main roadside. But he managed to get up and walk away."
Vijay lodged a complaint with the Race Course police in this regard, seeking a detailed inquiry into the incident.
The Race Course police have registered a case under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code and formed a special team to trace the identity of the deceased. "We are gathering details about the two motorists, who abandoned him on the roadside. Action will be taken against them for failing to alert us," Mathivanan said.
