NOIDA: The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has announced that it will restart the e-rickshaw services between the Sector 51 and Sector 52 metro stations from Wednesday.
A 300m dedicated walkway and a service lane for e-rickshaws that passengers used for the interchange are now gone since the Noida Authority started building a skywalk in their place.
The 420-metre-long and 5-metre-wide skywalk will cost Rs 9 crore and has a completion deadline of October 5. Officials said that the skywalk would have a travelator to allow quick movement between the two stations.
“As a result, the free e-rickshaw service, which the NMRC and the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) jointly operated on the route, stopped. But after due diligence and considering the needs of commuters, especially children and older persons, the e-rickshaw service is being restored with a possible modified route. Passengers can take e-rickshaws from both stations from June 14,” the NMRC said.
The new Sector 51 to Sector 52 metro station skywalk will run parallelly to the dismantled walkway. The NMRC has shared a route map, and according to it, the e-rickshaws starting from the Sector 52 metro station will ply on the Captain Shashikant road and take a right turn on Vishwakarma road to reach the Sector 51 metro station.
On Monday, TOI reported that passengers are being forced to trudge along the dug-up stretch, negotiating concrete chunks and gravel and battling dust. The lack of a shade over the stretch and the punishing summer sun makes the walk all the more difficult.
