Ponda: A quarrel between two Bihari migrants over cooking a meal blazed into an assault with a mushroom spawn cutter, in which one of the two has died, sources said. The deceased has been identified as Rajan Saha, a 35-year-old labourer from Bihar. Police have preserved the viscera of the body and have registered a case of unnatural death. An offence could be registered after the report of the viscera’s examination is received, the sources said.
According to police sources, Saha was allegedly assaulted by his colleague Chuman Kumar, also from Bihar, at their room on Saturday afternoon. They worked at a unit producing mushroom spawns at Udiwada-Usgao. “The quarrel broke out on the frivolous issue of cooking a meal,” a source said, adding that the two shared a room with other colleagues and each had a fixed day to cook meals. However, Saha failed to cook the meal that day which irked Kumar.
After the alleged attack, Saha was taken to the Dharbandora primary health centre at Piliyem and was then referred to Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital at Bambolim since his wound was deep and needed further treatment. However, Saha ran away from GMC on Sunday morning.
On Monday morning, the roommates found Saha unconscious and took him again to the Dharbandora primary health centre, where he was declared brought dead.
After being informed by the medical officer of the health centre, Ponda police retrieved the body and an autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, the source said.
