Ranchi: The Election Commission would hold special camps and door-to-door surveys from July 21 to August 21 in the state to enlist voters and remove errors from the voters’ list.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand, K Ravi Kumar, on Tuesday said the aim is to not leave any voter out of the list. The updating of the list is being undertaken in view of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, he stated.
The booth-level officers would put stickers on the surveyed houses and note the details of voters in a register. Special focus would be on registering the youths, women, third gender, sex workers, elderly persons and primitive tribes, he added.
Around 75% voters in the age group of 18-19 years are not enrolled, while 12% voters in the 20-29 age group are unregistered. The commission would get in touch with colleges to enlist the young voters.
“People can also get themselves enlisted by uploading necessary documents and their voter card would be sent through speed post. Correction of name, photos and address could be also done on the portal,” he said.
On the challenges faced by the commission, he said enlisting voters in the urban areas is more difficult due to construction of houses and apartments at new places.
He appealed to the masses, political parties and the media to cooperate in the exercise. Male and female voter ratio has reached 946 per 1,000.
The integrated voters’ list would be published on October 17, while people would get time from October 17 to November 30 to submit their claims and objections. The claims and objections would be disposed of by December 26 and the final list would be published on January 5.
