A group of Indian Americans has organised the inaugural Hindu-American Summit for political engagement, scheduled to take place at the US Capitol Hill on June 14. The summit aims to highlight the concerns and issues faced by the Hindu community, seeking the attention and support of lawmakers.
Romesh Japra, the founder and chairman of American4Hindus, expressed his enthusiasm for this groundbreaking event, emphasising the significance of Hindu-American leaders and organisations uniting for a political cause. He acknowledged the immense contributions of the Hindu community in various domains, such as culture, society, and economics, but acknowledged a relative lack of engagement in politics.
The summit aspires to rectify this disparity by convening 130 prominent figures and leaders from 20 Hindu and Indian organisations. Among the distinguished attendees will be Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, alongside many other esteemed representatives.
Japra hopes that the presence and words of these influential political figures will inspire and encourage leaders to actively participate in the political arena and instil a similar enthusiasm in the younger generation, ANI reported.
Expressing excitement over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's forthcoming visit to the United States in June, Japra underscored the impact of Modi's global presence, applauding his efforts in putting India on the world map.
Japra stressed that such achievements serve as a catalyst for Hindu-Americans and Indian Americans to exert a more significant influence within their local communities.
An array of Congressional leaders, representing both Democrats and Republicans, will also address the conference, further underscoring the bipartisan support and recognition of the Hindu-American community.
The summit seeks to foster dialogue and engagement, ensuring that the voices of the Hindu community are heard, and their issues addressed by policymakers.
