Thieves strike at locked house in Coimbatore, steal gold and cash
COIMBATORE: Unidentified people broke into a locked house in Karunanithi Nagar in Sowripalayam here and decamped with gold jewellery weighing 29 sovereigns and Rs 25,000 in cash.
Police said the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the house belongs to K Tamil Selvan, who is employed in a private company. His wife is also working in a private company near their house. She went to the house for lunch on Tuesday. She left the house a few minutes after having lunch.
Around 3pm, Tamil Selvan’s mother Rajamani, who is residing in a nearby house, found the doors of the house open. She altered Tamil Selvan, who rushed to the house and found that the thieves had gained entry into the house by breaking open the lock. He informed the Peelamedu police.
A team reached the house and collected evidence such as fingerprints. The police also collected CCTV footage available in the area and analysed them.
Based on a complaint from Tamil Selvam, a case was registered under IPC sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 454 (house breaking). A detailed inquiry was underway, said the police.
