NOIDA: The Noida Authority is planning to add more surveillance cameras to its arsenal of 1,000 CCTVs across the city under the Safe City project.
It will soon hire a private consultant that will work in tandem with the police teams to identify accident- and crime-prone areas and other vulnerable places and bring them under technical surveillance.
The Authority has recently reissued an official document inviting a request for proposal (RFP) from agencies willing to conduct a survey for the placement of CCTV cameras in the city. An RFP issued in April had failed to garner any interest.
“Special focus will be on installing cameras at black spots, which will be identified by the external agency in coordination with the police,” a Noida Authority official said.
Currently, Noida has 11 identified black spots at Sector 21/25 roundabout, Rajnigandha roundabout, Sector 37, Mahamaya Flyover, GIP Mall, Hajipur underpass, Yamaha Cut in Surajpur, two zero point one on the Noida Expressway near Sector 168 and one on NH-24 under Sector 58.
Officials said that the consultant, once finalised, will have to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and other documents within six months.
The survey report — with details on the placement and direction of cameras, latitudes and longitudes of the identified locations, and the estimated number of cameras required to cover these spots — will be submitted before the office of DGM Rajesh Kumar.
“The number of cameras for each spot will be determined by the geometry of the road, the number of roads originating from the location and the number of points of interest. The agency will also specify the type of camera needed to ensure complete coverage of black spots,” the official said.
The Safe City project is an initiative of the central government that aims to create a safe and secure environment for women and children in public places besides curbing crimes against them. Last year, over 1,000 CCTV cameras were installed at 76 locations under the project.
