Dumka admin razes 12 illegal coal tunnels in forest area
Dumka: Around one dozen illegal coal mining tunnels were demolished in the deep forest area of Shikaripara block on Monday.
The administrative team was led by district mining officer Krishna Kumar Kisku. A heavy contingent of security personnel of the district police force and the SSB were deployed at the site to thwart any attempts of the mining mafias to resist the drive.
“We had information of illegal coal mining at Lutiya hills and Badalpada locality in the forest areas under the Shikaripara police station limits,” Kisku said.
Three earth movers were pressed into service for demolishing the one dozen illegal tunnels. “Fifteen quintals of coal and three bicycles have been seized on Monday,” divisional forest officer Satvik said.
Those involved in the illegal coal mining were being identified for being named in the FIR. Such drive would be carried out again, he added.
The process to lodge an FIR was underway.
