There has been a rise in interest in luxury among the younger consumer demographic on an unprecedented scale, observed Gautam Gupta, the creative director of Indian fashion brand Asha Gautam, in a recent interview with Fibre2Fashion. Psychographic analysis indicated a surge in luxury shoppers, underscoring a fresh dynamic in the industry.

Gupta noted that post-lockdown, consumer behaviour had undergone a significant shift, with increased environmental sensitivity. Discussions around sustainability, responsible luxury, and circular designing are now commonplace across design houses, drawing boards, and fashion colleges.

“A lot of research and innovation is happening in this space, right from the material used and procured to the processes involved in construction to the recognition of artisans behind making the design and the way the products are packaged,” Gupta told F2F.

These shifts, Gupta suggested, reflect the industry’s adaptability and commitment to addressing both environmental and consumer behaviour changes, fostering a more sustainable and consumer-centric future.
