TNPL brings cricket fever to town
Coimbatore: The cricket ground at the Ramakrishna Arts and Science College in the city came to life on Monday with thousands of cricket enthusiasts thronging the ground to watch the inaugural match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
The tournament was thrown open with fireworks, which caught not just the attention of fans assembled at the ground but even those in its vicinity. The home team, Lyca Kovai Kings took on Karaikudi Kaalai in the opener.
Cricket enthusiasts are certain the cricket fever in town will soon catch up with more fans, with the city scheduled to host back-to-back matches until Friday. The TNPL is set to provide much awaited, live entertainment for cricket lovers in the district.
H Vignesh, a cricket fan said, with the IPL coming to an end, the TNPL will now provide fans with some much needed entertainment over the next few weeks. He added though he regularly watches matches on the telivision, watching a match live at the ground is quite a different experience.
Shafiq Ahamed, another fan said, he had come just to watch Sai Sudarshan play. The opener who plays for Lyca Kovai Kings has been grabbing eyeballs ever since his scintillating knock for the Gujarat Titans, against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL final. In the end, Sudarshan did not disappoint as he scored a brilliant half century.
Earlier, roads leading to the ground witnessed heavy traffic before the match and traffic police were deputed to regulate vehicular movement. TNN
