UP: Man ends life after killing brother-in-law in tiff over land dispute

VARANASI: In an old land and monetary dispute with his in-laws, a 39-year-old man of Mirzapur shot himself after killing his brother-in-law in Lohta area on Tuesday morning.
DCP Varuna zone Amit Kumar said that Dinesh Sharma alias Pintu opened fire on Gopalji at latter’s residence in Bakharia village under the limits of Lohta police station and fled the scene. But, on reaching Bankat village of Lohta area Dinesh shot himself with his licensed 12 bore repeater gun and died on the spot, said DCP adding, Gopalji was rushed to trauma centre of BHU, where he also died.
Police recovered a repeater gun, 17 live cartridges and empty shells from Bankat, where Dinesh was found dead, DCP said and added, both bodies were sent for postmortem examination. During initial investigation, it has come to light that Dinesh was married to Gopalji’s sister several years ago. Dinesh had old land and monetary dispute with his in-laws and in same dispute he had a brawl with his father-in-law Rajesh after which he opened indiscriminate fire on Gopalji, said DCP mentioning further investigation was continuing.
On Tuesday morning, Dinsh had reached the place of his in-laws on motorcycle with his repeater gun. While discussing on the issues of dispute, Dinesh started quarrelling with Rajesh and when Gopalji intervened and tried to pacify the situation. However, Dinesh opened fire in which Gopalji suffered several bullet injuries.
Panic prevailed in Bakharia village due to indiscriminate firing and villagers ran towards the place of Rajesh. However, before villagers could reach there, Dinesh fled the scene. Rajesh’s family members and villagers immediately rushed Gopalji to trauma centre.
