Bicholim: Karapur locals released water from Kolamba lake in the village this week as a precautionary measure upon the onset of monsoon. Interestingly, villagers were seen flocking to the lake to catch local species of fish, and managed to net quite a large catch this year.
Kolamba lake is famous for red lotus and local fish. After the monsoon, people store the water by building a bandhara using a mixture of stone, soil and cement.
When the monsoon begins, water from the dam is released as a precautionary measure. This practice also helps clear silt.
A local type of fish also breeds in this lake. By the time the monsoon arrives, a large number of fish accumulates. TNN
