SALEM: Chief minister M K Stalin on Monday said that he was happy to hear reports that Union home minister Amit Shah pitched for a 'Tamilian as Prime Minister' but wondered why he was angry with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make such a remark.
"I am happy that Amit Shah has said a Tamilian would be made a prime minister. But I don't know why he is angry at PM Modi," Stalin told reporters in Mettur on Monday.
While BJP men in Tamil Nadu say that Amit Shah made the remark keeping in mind state president K Annamalai, Stalin said Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Union minister of state for information technology L Murugan stand a chance in that case. "If the BJP wanted a Tamilian to become the PM, they have Tamilisai or Murugan. They might have a chance," Stalin said.
Meanwhile, BJP president Annamalai in response to Stalin's speech said the chief minister was speaking without understanding the democratic ideologies of the BJP. He said even a booth president can become a prime minister in the BJP as stated by Amit Shah, whereas in the DMK only those from Stalin's family can come to top positions. Annamalai said Stalin was in his current position because of dynastic politics.
On Shah's reported statement that the DMK prevented two Tamilians from becoming prime ministers, Stalin said he would give a better response to the remark if Amit Shah had made a public statement about it. "I would give a fitting response if he said that in a public forum. Now, I cannot comment on it,'' he said. Shah had made the statement in a closed-door meeting with party functionaries during his visit on Sunday.
Stalin said that Shah had not responded to his question on contributions by the BJP to Tamil Nadu. "The BJP had not implemented any special project for TN in their nine years of rule. If they had done anything, I had asked Shah to list them. But there was no answer to my question," Stalin said.

Listing out projects like Chennai Metro rail, Hogenakkal drinking water project, Nemmeli desalination project, and Tiruvarur Central University which were brought to TN when the DMK was part of the Congress-led UPA government, Stalin said he wanted to know from Shah if the BJP had implemented even one such project.
Even in fund allocation, the Centre allocates far less to TN than it collects by way of GST, he said.
On Amit Shah's comment blaming the DMK for the delay in AIIMS in Madurai, Stalin said it was the Centre which announced AIIMS. "It is not appropriate for a home minister to give such a reply," he said.
On the charge that the DMK was taking credit for projects rolled out by the previous AIADMK government, Stalin said projects like Chennai Metro and Koyambedu bus terminal were begun by the DMK, but the AIADMK took credit for them.
