BMC plans new projects for FY 2023-24
Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), which has been allocated Rs 148 crore under the Mukhya Mantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan (Mukta) yojana to bring transformation to the city, has lined up several projects for the 2023-24 financial year.
Besides makeover of schools and enhancing children’s play infrastructure, the BMC has chalked out plans on how to beautify 499 new spots in the city, which can add to the aesthetic look. It has also planned to develop 113 mini parks and 128 urinals. Besides, it will also invest in community centres, develop walking tracks and open gyms. For the welfare of traders, new vending zones will also come up at select places.
“These projects bring visual appeal to the cityscape and can also help reduce air pollution. At many places, lawns are being created that will help suppress dust. The projects will also pave way for creation of more hangout zones,” BMC deputy commissioner Manaranjan Sahu said.
The Mukta yojana, which also ensures livelihood for the urban poor, has already seen 43 mini parks come up in various wards of the city in the 2022-23 financial year. Before that also BMC had brought marginal visual transformation in the cityscape in terms of beautification.
“In the 2022-23 financial year, we developed 34 neighbourhood playgrounds, 26 walking tracks and six vending zones,” Sahu added.
BMC sources said till June 2, it has spent Rs 23 crore under Mukta funding.
Ahead of the men’s hockey World Cup in January, the BMC had painted the 12-km long flyover stretch over National Highway-16, from Rasulgarh Square to DN Regalia Square at Ghatikia, with place-specific design.
