Family reports theft, ‘bahu’ turns out to be architect
Ludhiana: A few hours after a family reported a theft of Rs 4 lakh cash and gold jewellery from their house, the family member was arrested for orchestrating the crime.
In his complaint with the police, Chetan Narang said his father Deep Singh and brother had gone to work around 6.30am. His mother left the main gate of the house unlocked and went for a morning walk in a park in their house. When she returned around 6.45am, the gate of the house was open. As she entered the bedroom, she found a wooden almirah open and Rs 5 lakh cash and gold jewellery stolen.”
Chetan said when the incident occured, he, his wife and their daughter were sleeping in another room. Chetan said her daughter had heard some noise, but she thought it was coming from the kitchen. Importantly, the pet dog also did not bark when the miscreant executed a theft.
But by evening, police solved the case by arresting Chetan’s wife. Deputy commissioner of police (rural) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said the police swung into action and started a probe. During the investigation, the police suspected involvement of an insider who exactly knew where the cash and gold was kept. When the police questioned Chetan Narang’s wife Vandana, she confessed to her crime.
“The police arrested Vandana and recovered Rs 4.27 lakh, 100g gold and 60g silver jewelry (that was actually stolen) which she had hidden in the house. Vandana had strained relations with her in-laws,” DCP Teja added. tnn
