UK unemployment lowers to 3.8% in April
UK unemployment Rate decreased to 3.80% in April from 3.90% in March of 2023.
The figure is up 0.1% on the quarter but below market expectations of 4%.
The rate remained close to the January-March period's over one-year high of 3.9%, as the number of unemployed increased by 52K to 1.31M, driven by people unemployed for up to 12 months.
At the same time, employment levels rose by 250K to an all-time high of 33.09M, easily beating market consensus of a 162Kadvance, with increases in both the number of employees and self-employed workers.
The economic inactivity rate decreased by 0.4% on the quarter to 21%, led by those inactive for other reasons, and those looking after family or home.
