The Pune unit of the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a policeman and booked two of his colleagues at Yerwada police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000 from a businessman, in the early hours of Tuesday.
As per ACB, the accused—police havaldar Rajendra Dikshit, police havaldar Jayram Savalkar and police havaldar Vinayak Mudholkar—demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a businessman who owns a transport company, for lodging his complaint regarding a road accident involving his car.
However, the businessman went ahead and filed a complaint against the policemen at ACB’s Pune office. A team of ACB verified the complaint on Monday, and early morning on Tuesday, a team of ACB laid a trap at the Yerwada police station area.
ACB sleuths found the accused policemen negotiating with the complainant and demanding a Rs 13,000 bribe. ACB caught constable Dikshit red handed, while accepting the bribe from the complainant, and arrested him.
Deputy Superintendent of police Shrihari Patil of ACB said that while Dikshit has been arrested, an offence has been lodged against the other two policemen too. Further investigation is underway.
A first information report (FIR) in this case was lodged at Yerwada police station. ACB produced Dikshit before a court in Pune. The court remanded him to ACB custody for further investigation.
