MUMBAI: Western Railway (WR) services were badly affected due to signal failure on fast and slow corridor, both, in up and down directions on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second incident of signal failure this week on WR after Monday’s incident near Churchgate.
WR spokesperson said, "There has been Signal failure due to cable defect near Malad station since 11.45am. WR’s team is on the job and Down slow has been put right. The other lines too are being attended to and will be rectified at the earliest."
A senior WR official said, "The exact cause could not be detected and hence a new cable is being laid. The work was scheduled to be completed by 4pm."
As a result, signals were on ‘A’ marker, making it mandatory for trains to halt and proceed further. This resulted in bunching and had an cascading impact on all the train, whose punctuality got derailed.
Many commuters claimed that they were stuck in trains for almost 25 to 30 minutes.
Bhayander commuter Mahendra Parmar said, “My train was stuck near Borivli for 20 minutes and was stopping multiple times till it crossed Andheri.”
Another commuter Subhash Shirke said, “I decided to take Metro from Andheri to reach Borivli since trains are delayed by almost 30 minutes.”
