School founder held under Pocso over girl's death in Karnataka's Shivamogga

SHIVAMOGGA: The founder and head of a residential school in Shivamogga district was arrested on Monday in connection with the death of a girl at the school.
The class VIII student, a Dalit, collapsed in school on Thursday. She was declared dead at the hospital. The 13-year-old had joined the institute just five days ago.
Cops arrested HP Manjappa and filed a case under Pocso and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, after students gave their statements before police. tnn
The child welfare committee accused the school head of allegedly misbehaving with the girl, said Shivamogga SP GK Mithun Kumar.
The cops had initially registered a case of unnatural death. After the autopsy, the viscera sample was sent to the forensic science lab for further investigation. The girl's mother, a daily-wage worker, told police that when she called her daughter on Wednesday, her friends told her that she was unwell and was sleeping. On Thursday, Manjappa called her asking her to rush to hospital as her daughter was injured. When she reached the hospital, she was told her daughter is no more.
