To set up 5-star at Anjuna, GTDC needs green nod
Panaji: The Goa state expert appraisal committee (Goa-SEAC) has decided to recommend an EC for the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC)’s proposal to develop a five-star resort at Anjuna.
The proposal will now go to the Goa state environment impact assessment authority (Goa-SEIAA), which will further scrutinise the project details before granting its approval.
“Project proponent should necessarily make appropriate provision while constructing the roof-tops at the time of construction stage only to enable installation of solar panels,” one of the conditions laid down for the project by Goa-SEAC reads.
At least 20% of open spaces should be maintained in the project as required by building by-laws, and outdoor and common area lighting should be LED, the committee has said.
It has also said that features should be incorporated in the buildings which optimise the use of natural light and reduce the use of electricity.
GTDC has been told to fit water-saving devices and fixtures like low-flow flushing systems to ensure water conservation.
Goa-SEAC has also said that separate plumbing for grey and black water and to ensure the reuse of treated water again for toilet flushing, etc, in the buildings.

No construction should take place in areas marked as open spaces and no-development zones, the committee has said.
“The Goa-SEIAA reserves the right to add any stringent condition or to revoke the environmental clearance, if conditions stipulated by the Goa-SEAC are not implemented to the satisfaction of the authority or for any other administrative reasons,” the Goa-SEAC said.
