Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court started functioning out of the new campus in Ranchi on Monday. Sprawling across 167 acres, it is the largest high court campus in the country.
To mark the first working day, the advocates association organised a ceremony to felicitate senior advocates.
Congratulating the legal fraternity , Chief
Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra said, “It (the court) stands for the right of justice to all in the society. Advocates and judges together make a court and should work hand in hand for delivery of justice to common man.”
Association secretary Navin Kumar said the court is one of it’s kind in the country and very beautifully designed. However, there may be a few teething problems which will be sorted out, he added.
The court was bustling with advocates on the first day. Chambers have already been allocated to a few lawyers as decided by a committee comprising judges and the president and the secretary of the association. Advocates who will sit in the hall will also be given designated seating areas once the halls are furnished, Kumar said.
Escalators installed in the two-storey building were a centre of attraction.
Advocate Indrani Sen
Choudhary quipped, “Though the new building is spacious and beautifully made, I will miss the old court where I started my practice.”
