Nagpur: Master of Science (MSc) students from several colleges affiliated to the Nagpur University (NU) have written to vice-chancellor Subhash Chaudhari seeking postponement of their upcoming summer exam by at least 15 days or until August.
Apart from dragging its winter exam till April, the NU exam section left students baffled by announcing summer exam timetable immediately after declaring results of winter exams. Due to this, many colleges were able to conduct offline classes for just 15 days, though UGC rules mandate classes over 90 days.
As per academic calendar, the winter exam was scheduled for December-January. But the exam section, led by director Prafulla Sabale, messed up with both winter and summer examinations, students alleged. Sabale and Chaudhari didn’t respond to TOI’s calls.
Students told TOI that they fear failing in the second semester exams, which are slated to begin from June 27, as just 30% of syllabus has been taught in the classrooms so far.
A MSc chemistry student from VMV College said, “Our winter exam results were declared on May 24, and within a couple of days, the NU declared the second semester exam timetable. Only 15 -day online classes were held as the summer vacation started. Only 30% of the syllabus has been covered so far.”
The student added that their first semester exams went on till April 10.
“Actually, it should have been held in December or January as per academic schedule. We don’t know why it was not held as per the schedule. They are telling us that the third semester must start from June 15 as per rule. But as per rule, the second semester should have started much earlier. Teachers have not even started teaching two of my subjects,” she said.
