Kota: The principal of the Delhi Public School (DPS) here has been booked by the city’s R K Puram police station for cheating his landlord of Rs 1 lakh on the promise of securing admission to his daughter to a prestigious college in Pune.
A woman based in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, identified as Priyanka Pachpatil, also lodged an online complaint with the cyber cell against the principal, Tridiv Nayan Basishtha, stating that he used her name and fake email ID for correspondence with the victim in Kota.
The landlord, Ram Singh Rathore, a resident of Srinathpuram, lodged a case against Basishtha under IPC sections 420 (cheating, dishonesty) and 406 (criminal breach of trust), said Siyaram, the investigating officer (IO) of the case at R K Puram police station. He said that Rathore in his report alleged that Basishtha cheated him of Rs 1 lakh by using the name and fake email ID of Priyanka Pachpatil, whom he claimed to be an official of the college in Pune. In her online complaint filed on Saturday, Pachpatil alleged that Basishtha created a fake email ID under her name and sent emails to people promising admission to the college in Pune.
Speaking to TOI on phone, Pachpatil said that Basishtha was a serial criminal against whom she had lodged a case of cheating her parents of over Rs 7 lakh at the Dispur police station in July 2017. She said it was quite shocking that the DPS management did not check his background before appointing him as principal.
The school has now issued a letter, a copy of which is in TOI’s possession, signed by Mahua Das Gupta, director principal, Trinity Wisdom Education Welfare & Cultural Society, to Basishtha asking him to hand over charge of the school by June 13.
“You have unjustly enriched yourself at the cost of these innocent parents and staff members in abuse of your position as the principal of the school,” the letter reads, and adds, “Due to your illegal actions, the school was constrained to file a criminal complaint against you before R.K. Puram police station on June 11, 2023.”
However, circle inspector at R K Puram police station, Anil Joshi, said they have received only one complaint by Rathore against Basishtha and no complaint from the DPS management so far.
