LUDHIANA: The ‘name and shame campaign’ that the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) had started against payment defaulters has started bearing fruit, as the businessmen have so far recovered pending dues worth Rs 60 lakh from such defaulters.
The UCPMA had decided to send warning notices to the defaulters that if they fail to make payments to the city businessmen, their names and details would be made public, along with the amount of pending dues. Inspired by the results, more and more businessmen have come forward to report such incidents of payment defaults, and so far more than 300 notices have been issued by the UCPMA to these defaulters.
TOI had reported about this campaign a few days ago, that the UCPMA had started ahead of rising number of payment defaults being committed by the businessmen from other states with Ludhiana’s bicycle industry.
UCPMA president D S Chawla said, “It has been little over one month when the ‘name and shame’ campaign of UCPMA was started, and the results are already remarkable. So far, we have successfully been able to recover pending payments worth more than Rs 60 lakh of bicycle industry of Ludhiana stuck with their buyers.”
In order to initiate proceedings against the defaulter, businessmen first have to lodge a written complaint at the UCPMA office, in which he has to mention the name, address, and GST details of the defaulter, along with account statements.
“After verification of the documents, UCPMA sends a notice to the defaulter attaching the copies of the account statement and transactions, requesting him to settle the account with the complainant within 15 days of receipt of our notice. In case the defaulter fails to comply, we send him a final notice mentioning that UCPMA will move a resolution in working committee against the defaulter, after which his name, details and amount of default will be made public in industrial circles, and entire responsibility of any loss caused will be solely of the defaulter,” added Chawla.
He also informed that the association has received complaints against some city businessmen not delivering them goods even after taking advance payments, and action will be taken in this case as well.
