RAJKOT: One person was killed when a dilapidated house collapsed in the Kharvavad area of Porbandar while a wall collapsed near the Palana Chowk area in the city. The deceased has been identified as Naran Lodhari (35).
Heavy rain continues to pound the forest areas of Gir Somnath districts and coastal districts like Devbhumi Dwarka and Jamnagar as a pre-effect of Cyclone Bipajoy, which is expected to make landfall on June 15 near Jakhau port in Kutch.
According to latest reports, the wind is gusting at around 40 to 50 km per hour in the area and also high tidal waves up to 25 feet can be witnessed in the sea.
The roads in many coastal towns like Dwarka, Khambhaliya, Porbandar, Veraval and Jamnagar are waterlogged and normal life has been disrupted.
The state road transport corporation has suspended its buses from coastal areas as part of precaution. The train service from Rajkot to Porbandar, Veraval and Okha has also been suspended with over 150 trains affected. Many local trains stand cancelled while long-route trains are short-terminated at Rajkot and Hapa stations.
