Cyclone Biparjoy Live Updates: Over 12,000 to be evacuated in Kutch & Dwarka; WR short terminates 56 trains heading to coastal Gujarat

• The railways has activated its disaster management set-up to minimize the impact of cyclone Biparjoy, which is likely to make landfall in Gujarat this week, officials said on Monday.
• The railways has identified vulnerable sections on its network, including Bhavnagar, Mahuva, Veraval to Porbandar, Okha to Hapa, and Gandhidham area.
• The train transportation has been affected badly because of cyclone. According to the railway authority movement of more then 150 trains was likely to be affected in the next three days.
• The trains between Rajkot-Okha, Rajkot-Veralva and RajkotMorbi have been suspended.
• The long distance trains will be terminated at Rajkot and Hapa stations while local trains have been cancelled.

• As cyclone Biparjoy approaches and is likely to make landfall near Jakhau port in the Kutch district off the Gujarat coast, evacuation efforts will pick up on Tuesday, with the government aiming to evacuate people within 10 km from the coast.
• Authorities in the coastal districts of Kutch, Porbandar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and Morbi have started the process of shifting those living near the coastline.
• Officials said thousands of people residing in areas within 10km from the shore will be moved to safer places from Tuesday.

Lakhs of people in coastal Saurashtra and Kutch were staring at a grim week ahead as cyclone Biparjoy barrelled towards Gujarat, packing devastating winds and downpours, with landfall expected near the fishing port of Jakhau on June 15.

• In the wake of the impending cyclone Biparjoy, Indian Railways have activated the disaster management room and also opened emergency control rooms in several districts of Gujarat to ensure smooth rail functioning.
• The director of Information and Publication Railway Board, Shivaji Sutar, on Monday said that sufficient manpower and machinery has been deployed with adequate preparation to deal with any emergency situation.

Strong winds sweeped the city over the weekend, especially on Sunday, as cyclone Biparjoy intensified into an extremely severe storm in the Arabian Sea and passed off the coast of Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday reviewed the preparedness of central agencies as well as Gujarat government to deal with the situation arising out of the impending cyclone 'Biparjoy', and directed authorities to take measures to ensure people in vulnerable locations are safely evacuated.

As the state braces for impact of 'extremely severe' cyclonic storm Biparjoy on June 15, Met department officials said this is the fourth major cyclone to affect Gujarat coast in five years. In 2019, cyclone Vayu made a landfall in the state followed by Nisarga in 2020 which hit Maharashtra giving ample rainfall to coastal Gujarat while in 2021, Tauktae made a landfall near Diu-Una causing widespread destruction.

Approximately 16.76 lakh people in 441 villages across eight coastal districts are expected to be affected by Cyclone Biparjoy, according to the state government's estimates.
