KALYAN: A debt-ridden man, who snatched a woman's mangalsutra valued at Rs 1.5 lakh at Kalyan railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district, was promptly nabbed by the railway police.
Twenty-nine-year-old Roshan Patil is a resident of Vadavali village in Bhiwandi.
The Kalyan GRP (Government Railway Police) that nabbed Patil said he has no previous criminal records of robbery or theft except of one assault.
The GRP found that Patil was in dire need of money due to some debts.
The GRP said on Tuesday 3am Patil was standing near platform number 1.
When Patil spotted a woman, who wore a heavy mangalsutra with her relative, alight from the train, he snatched the mangalsutra of her and fled.
Mukesh Dhage, senior police inspector of Kalyan GRP, said, “After the woman raised an alarm, our team which was in plain clothes at the platform nabbed him with the mangalsutra."
