One killed, two injured as Manipur continues to burn
Guwahati: A 22-year-old man was killed and at least two others injured when unidentified gunmen attacked two villages in separate incidents in Churachandpur and on the border between Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts on Monday afternoon.
The incident in Churachandpur occurred at a time when state governor Anusuiya Uikey was visiting relief camps housing displaced people in the district.
Churachandpur police said the firing occurred after 2 pm at Loklakphai village, in which one person was killed. “Unknown miscreants fired,” a police official said. The victim has been identified as a village volunteer Muansang Naulak.
Earlier at around 10.45 am, another group of unidentified gunmen attacked Khamenlok and Khopibung areas of Saikul assembly constituency in Kangpokpi district under Imphal East police jurisdiction, in which at least two persons were injured. Khopibung village has been completely burnt by the attackers.
