Monsoon session from Jul 18 to Aug 10
The 2023-24 financial statement will be passed during the session
Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday that the monsoon session of Goa legislative assembly will commence on July 18.
“The four-week assembly session will end on August 10,” Sawant told TOI. The session will see members discuss and pass the financial statement for the year 2023-2024 which was presented by the CM in the budget session.
There will also be discussions on demands of each department, and passing of the same. There will also be government bills and private members’ resolutions and bills.
The four-day budget session was held in March 2023.
The opposition has criticised the last few sessions for being too short, and said they couldn’t raise issues of public importance due to time constraints.
This time around, issues like land conversions by the department of town and country planning, Mhadei, unemployment, disaster management, law and order, rape, and mining are likely to be discussed in the assembly.
In the 40-member Goa legislative assembly, BJP has 28 MLAs, Congress 3, RGP 1, MGP 2, GFP 1, and AAP 2. Three MLAs are independent.

Last July, the assembly’s business advisory committee curtailed the monsoon session from a month to two weeks due to the panchayat elections.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had said that the government is setting a bad example for new MLAs by curtailing the session.
“Murder of democracy is continuing for the past five years. The first-time MLAs would have been able to participate during a month-long assembly session, and the opportunity has been taken away by giving the excuse of panchayat elections,” he had said.
