Gumla: “Books are a uniquely portable magic,” wrote

Well, the portable magic has come in the form of a “books bank” launched by Gumla Nagar Parishad (GNP). Its members will provide books at the door steps of readers and even come and collect it after 10 days. The rent? A princely sum of Re 1 per day.
The books bank was recently inaugurated by the district’ Plus II science topper Pammi Kumari in the presence of Gumla deputy commissioner Sushant Gaurav and GNP administrator
Sanjay Kumar. She was given three books meant for engineering entrance examination.
The facility is available for avid readers and serious candidates preparing for competitive examinations. Be it course books to prepare for medical engineering or civil services entrance tests or books of fiction and fun reading, the bookworm can come to the bank and take books @ Re 1 per day per book and keep the books for 10 days.
The book bank also assures to provide books on demand.
The deputy commissioner appreciated the collection of books especially Plus II-level physics, chemistry and mathematics.
He urged the meritorious students to take full advantage of this unique facility and shape their careers saying, “This book bank is well stocked for students as well as general readers.”
GNP administrator Sanjay Kumar who mooted the idea of such an exclusive “knowledge bank” said, “Now the economic condition of the family of the students will no longer be a hurdle in getting books of any sort. They have the book bank to bank on.”
“Students who sometimes struggle to get quality books or general readers, can simply demand those. However expensive those books are, we will deliver. They will just have to give us in writing,” he said.
Kumar said what is unique about the book bank is that if anybody is unable to visit the bank for any genuine reason — being specially abled, elderly or children — it (bank) will provide books at their doorsteps without any service charge. “This facility will be within the jurisdiction of the GNP only,” he added.
Kumar urged residents to to donate books generously.
