Woman BJP leader’s body found on highway in Goalpara

Guwahati: A woman BJP leader was found dead with severe head injuries on NH-17 in Goalpara district late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Jonali Nath, was BJP’s district secretary in Goalpara. Her body was found dumped on the highway in the Krishnai Salpara area.
Goalpara SP VV Rakesh Reddy said, “Post-mortem examination has been conducted. It will take some time to come out with the report.” He added that a team of the CID has also reached the district to investigate the case. “The accused will be in the police net soon.”
The family members told police that Jonali had left home for Islampur at 4.30 pm on Sunday. “At 7 pm, the family members tried to contact her but found her phone switched off. Later, the family informed the police and her body was found lying beside the NH-17,” police said.
Police suspect it’s a case of murder and the perpetrators dumped her body on the highway.
