A tree collapsed on an auto rickshaw causing the death of a female passenger near the Muktangan School in Sahakar Nagar area of Pune, on Monday evening.
Pune Fire Brigade officials said the deceased woman was identified as Leela Kakade (50), a resident of Jambhulwadi.
The control room of the Pune Fire Brigade received a call at around 4.45 pm about the incident. A team led by fire officer Ravindra Adhav rushed to the spot with a rescue van. Meanwhile, a team of the Pune Police also reached the spot.
The impact of the fallen tree was such that a side of the auto rickshaw was crushed. Firemen said the tree felling caused a serious head injury to Kakade.
There were three more women identified as Namrata Pol (46), Kamal Adikame (69) and Meena Purushottam Pol (61), along with a three-year-old boy, who were travelling in the auto rickshaw.
Locals had removed them from the auto rickshaw and they escaped unhurt in the incident.
Firemen called the 108 ambulance service and took the injured woman to the Sassoon hospital for treatment, where she was pronounced dead by the doctors.
Fire officials said the auto rickshaw driver was also injured in the incident, but his situation was stable.
A kiosk at the spot also suffered damage, fire officials said.
